Can you believe that 2013 is coming to an end? It really is true, the older you get the faster time goes. I can’t believe it’s time to flip the page to a new year. As the year winds down it’s always fun to reflect on the past events. From a marketing standpoint, 2013 was a huge year for video marketing, as was predicted would be in 2012. I was browsing on Practical Ecommerce and came across this article, 12 Most Shared Video Ads of 2013. I thought it was funny. Here is a preview but go to this article to see them all!
Geico’s Hump Day Commercial – what day is it?!
Kmart’s Ship My Pants – I have shown this video before but it’s to funny not to show again
If you manage a brand page on Facebook, you may have recently noticed a loss of traffic to your page. Similar to your site on Google, Facebook has now updated it’s algorithm. On December 2, 2013 Facebook’s blog post, “News Feed FYI: Helping You Find More News to Talk About”, Facebook said it would put more articles by publishers in the newsfeed, ranking them by how much they are clicked on.
Facebooks solution to the problem of business pages not being seen in the newsfeed? Facebook Ads.
According to Business Insider: “Facebook’s News Feed tweak wasn’t only about getting “higher quality content” in the News feed. It was as much about reducing the reach of free ads on Facebook. Now, if a brand wants exposure on Facebook, it’s going to have to buy it from Facebook.”
Holiday marketing has been in full swing for a few months. With companies beginning holiday marketing even earlier this year, some in September already, it’s no surprise that companies are thinking out of the box when it comes to strategy. Not putting all their eggs in one basket, companies are reaching out marketing efforts to social media, online, TV ads and online ads, among many other avenues.
Still in the running, trade shows showcase high importance, especially for an extra boost during the holidays. Stand out from the crowd with a unique peninsula display to catch more eyes during the holiday. Market a steep discount or hot new product for customers to get excited about. Don’t forget about catchy advertisements that get people laughing, like Kmart’s famous, “Shipped my pants” holiday edition.
What new trends have you noticed during this year’s holiday marketing?
Do you use the app Snapchat? Everyone I know, including myself, uses this little app on a daily basis. I’m actually obsessed with it. It’s amusing to send silly pictures to friends that are only able to be seen for 1-10 seconds, what’s not funny about that? Many don’t realize the creator of this app is a 23 year old man, and many don’t know the other day he turned down a 3 billion dollar cash pay out, according to the Wall Street Journal.
I’m sure your wondering why he would reject such a large offer? To be honest I’m not really sure. I have been keeping up with the story though. Facebook has been wanting to buy Snapchat badly and has been making large offers. I’m thinking a buyout will be happening shortly, by Facebook of course. It must be worth more than 3 billion dollars to 23 year old CEO Evan Spiegel. Snapchat hasn’t yet generated revenue but has the potential to run some gigantic ads. I’m thinking ads are in order by Facebook, is this a money maker or not? Do you think snapchat is worth more than 3 billion dollars?
Earlier this week Apple revealed it’s newest products, and Wednesday I chatted about my opinion on them. I
am was a huge fan of Breaking Bad, seriously heartbroken now that it is over. Of course I was browsing on Mashable, when I read that Bryan Cranston is voicing the new Apple commercial. When I listen to it it just reminds me of his character in Breaking Bad. I think he will always be Walter White to me.
Apple sure does know what effective marketing and advertising is, no surprise there. They have always been a step ahead of everyone with their products and with their marketing. This commercial is of course like the rest, simple and tot he point. It’s short and shows the user the product attributes, which is not typically done very well. I love that they used Bryan Cranston’s voice, it’s a nice touch. It will also gain much attention from the media world, smart move Apple.
