Have you noticed that it’s snowing here on iBlogalicious? You can make it snow on your blog too, simply by using the Let It Snow plugin. Speaking of snow, can you believe we had our first snowfall a month ago? I live in Pennsylvania, FYI, so snow in October is not a very common occurrence. In fact, I’m pretty sure the last “significant” snowfall in October last occurred sometime in 1979. Typically we don’t get a decent snowfall until at least mid-November. But on Saturday, October 27th, this is what I woke up to:
Crazy, huh?
In any case, I am totally ready for cold weather. I purchased snow boots for my son and daughter in early October; a new winter coat, snow pants, and a set of waterproof gloves for my daughter three weeks ago; and a long winter coat for myself that night. My son has a very nice 4-in-1 winter coat from last year, and I purchased a pair of snow pants for him about a month back, so we’re all set. Usually I wait until last minute to purchase snow boots for the kids, and by then they’re almost always sold out.
So tell me… are you ready for winter weather?
So here’s my secret: I’m not crazy about cooking, but I love to bake. If given a choice between dinner or dessert, I’d definitely volunteer to make dessert, and I’d even sweeten the deal (no pun intended) by offering to clean up all of the dishes from both dinner and dessert. Most people, especially my own mother (she hates to clean, and her previously hoarded and gross house was more than enough testament to that fact), gladly take me up on that offer.
I use TasteBook to organize my recipes (and I can access them on my iPod Touch or my son’s iPad – awesome!), and I’ve been busy bookmarking sites like Brown Eyed Baker to give me inspiration for desserts – and meals, too.
What’s your preference – cooking or baking?
Well, at least proof that one of my cats and my dog can get along:
On the left is Minerva, our six month old female tabby kitten. On the right is Leah, our three and a half year old female Pug. When we brought Minerva home she was a mere seven weeks old and oh-so tiny, and since Leah is pretty much attached to me whenever possible, Minerva readily accepted her as another warm body to cuddle up to, knead, and even lick and suckle. Leah is about as laid back as a lazy chunky Pug can get, so she takes it all in stride.
Have I told you about my cat (well, one of them — I have four), Kirin? He’s a five year old Siamese/domestic mix. He’s also quite the hefty kitty, weighing in at 19.8 lbs. He’s very friendly, though oddly shy around anyone other than myself, my husband, and the kids. He also drools, a lot, and drools even more when he’s excited or happy.
But he’s so pretty, so we don’t mind. Too much, anyway.
And she is quite happy to see me. ♥ Her name is Minerva (my husband picked it), and she’s eight weeks old as of today.
The upside to having a kitten: so cute! so adorable! so sweet!
The downside to having a kitten: claws and teeth that go after everything, including kids clothes, hands (she loves chewing on tungsten rings, feet, other cats, the dog, etc. I might need to see someone in medical scrubs to take care of all of the kitten-sized wounds!
While I’m on the subject of sharing photos of my pets, have you met the prettiest Persian of them all, Blueboy? Maybe I’m just partial, but I think he’s absolutely gorgeous. He’s also friendly, smart, and a little bit cunning. His eyes are not only beautiful, like most cats’ eyes are, but I swear they look intelligent on a human level. It’s kind of creepy!
Do you like Persian cats?
When it comes to fish, I think I’m a Betta fish person. While I prefer furry, cuddly animals that I can pet, nothing beats the calm and tranquillity that a happily swishing Betta fish has to offer. While Betta fish are generally pretty easy to care for, I still recommend checking out a site like Betta Care to make sure you know exactly how to provide optimal care for your Betta.
Here’s my Betta, Gigabyte (an “upgrade” from Megabyte, who unexpectedly passed away two days after I purchased him):
Meet my blogging sidekick, Leah.
I call her my sidekick because she goes wherever I go. When I’m working on my laptop, she’s sitting next to me on the sofa, in the recliner, or at my feet if I’m in bed or sitting at the kitchen table.
Leah is a purebred Pug, as you can surely tell. She’ll be three years old on May 15th.
